OBJECTIVE
Students will understand that animals and machines help farmers complete jobs on a farm
Students will recognize how machines and animals can complete the same job in different ways
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
What are farms for?
What are there animals on farms?
What jobs do farmers do?
MATERIALS
- Animals/Machines Cards
- Farm Animal and Machines Worksheet
- Whiteboard & Marker
- Magnets
PROCEDURE
Introduction:
Ask students: “Why do you think farmers keep animals on their farms? Machines? What jobs do those do?”.
Activity:
Tells students that animals and machines can help farmers accomplish similar work and we’re going to play a matching game to see what jobs machines and animals do on a farm.
Give each student a card, have them look at pictures & think about what the animal or machine does without showing or telling what is on their card. Help students read their card if needed.
Have one student at a time come to the middle of the rug and act out what their animal/machine does. If someone thinks theirs matches, raise your hand, tell us the animal, and why.
Put matches on the board with a magnet and ask students how having animal/machine help might be better or worse?
Once all matches are together, write a few words for what each animal/machine does
Wrap Up/Assessment:
Have students draw a picture of an animal & machine doing the same job on the Farm Animal and Machines Worksheet.
